Archiving Dracula

Archiving Dracula—
3-Minutes B&W Silent
—by Gerald Malanga

...is all that remains.
Decades ago now seem non-existent.
A fiction takes place.
Film degrades restlessly over time.
The background is black mostly.
Truth is no longer 24 frames per second
and no-one remembers.
The face slowly flickers and fades.

The Kiss (Bela Lugosi),
1963. Silkscreen ink on
paper, 30” X 40”

“Andy’s ironic way of separating
himself from the immediate reality
of a violent event with an equally
violent yet fictive cinematic tableau
vivant framed as a publicity shot?”
—Gerald Malanga, Archiving Warhol
