Strong City

“The widest prairies
have electric fences”
—Philip Larkin, WIRES

But before that—
There were vast prairies
With just plain barbed wires

Wrapped around these—
Megalithic limestone posts
Used for demarcations

Big thick fossil-encrusted—
Easter Island slabs from
Some gone Cenozoic Era

Much of Chase County—
Once a long-gone vast
American Inland Sea

Before electricity zapped—
Wandering Heifer Herds
Jurassic Monsters thrived

Long before young cowboys—
At the local County Rodeo
Prehistoric Pricks ruled
